Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy Overview
Diabetes damages many different parts of the body, including the eye. The longer you or a loved one has had diabetes, the greater a risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy can cause the blood vessels in your eye to bleed, blocking the vision. It can also cause the retina to swell, blurring and distorting the vision. It can also lead to retinal detachment, which can be permanently blinding!
Getting a routine eye exam—especially if you’re diabetic—goes a long way in preserving your vision. See one of our eye doctors at a location near you.
Don’t Let Diabetes Interfere With Your Vision
90% of those diagnosed with advanced diabetic retinopathy still have the opportunity to prevent vision loss.
If left unchecked, diabetic retinopathy can distort or even rob you of your vision. Many patients don’t notice symptoms early on, although damage is occurring. Through routine, yearly eye exams, your eye doctor can detect progression of diabetic retinopathy, allowing you to begin treatment that will help preserve your vision.
We recommend all diabetic patients see one of our eye doctors near you.
