Entropion & Ectropion Overview

Aging and scar tissue can pull your eyelid, causing it to turn inward (entropion) or outward (ectropion). This can cause eyelashes and skin to rub against the eye’s surface. It can also misdirect tears so that the eye surface dries out, and the tears roll on to the cheeks. All these can result in irritation and discomfort. How Entropion & Ectropion Affect Vision

Ectropion and entropion can cause corneal damage and discomfort. If you frequently feel like something is in your eye, or you’re noticing decreasing vision, seek help from one of our offices. If left untreated, these conditions can permanently damage your eyes.

Treatment for Entropion & Ectropion

Correcting either condition usually involves surgery. The procedure is meant to adjust the tension of the tissue supporting the eyelids, so they stay in the proper position. The small incisions are usually hidden in skin creases so that any skin scarring is nearly invisible.
